Portia Lee James DeGeneres (also known as Portia de Rossi) is a famous Australian as well as an American actor, model and philanthropist. At the age of 15 she was legally able to change her name and adopted her Italian name "de Rossi" that was fashionable. Her name was changed to "Portia" to reference Shakespeare's performance of The Merchant of Venice. Portia feels that it was the most daring thing she has ever done and stated that the urgency to alter her name was due to her struggle over her sexuality. Portia's career began in Hollywood through the romantic drama film 'Sirens. She was in the film with Hugh Grant.
